The plant is situated in a total energy system with high export potential in immediate vicinity of energy systems of Baltic countries and Byelorussia.

In accordance with the basic version of scenario conditions of development of electric power industry for 2008-2011, growth of electric power consumption in the North-West Integrated Power System will amount to 5.4-8.9 % per year in the period indicated. Besides, the plant capacity provides technical possibility of export deliveries into the electric power systems of Byelorussia and Baltic countries owing to the location of Pskovskaya GRES in the electrical network that provides parallel work of electrical power systems of the countries named with the Unified Energy System of Russia. In accordance with the factors specified, Pskovskaya GRES has opportunities concerning permanent energy demand growth.

Main equipment includes 2 highly-cycling power units of 215 MW rated capacity each. Each unit includes: steam condensing turbine of K-215-130-1 type with nominal power of 215 MW, two-furnace drum boiler of TPE-208 type with natural circulation, run on milled peat and reconstructed as per design developed by the All-Russia Heat-Engineering Research and Development Institute for natural gas burning. Primary steam capacity of the boiler is 670 t/h. Power units of Pskovskaya GRES have no technical limits and are ready to bear the nominal power of 215 MW each. The plant capacities are the newest among the company capacities.

Main and the only fuel is natural gas that is supplied through a branch of main export pipeline.
